Work from Home Technology: 15 Must-Know Tips to Protect Your Business

The last thing you want when working from home is interruptions. You’d better take a look at our article to avoid interruptions!

Protecting your technology while working in a home office is as important as protecting your home or car. However, while working during the day and rushing to do the next job, we ignore some things. Do not do this! We’ve compiled a checklist to keep you, your computer, and other devices running smoothly .

In the days of the Covid-19 pandemic, when expenses are minimized, this situation also has an economic side. In some cases, it may be necessary to purchase new equipment to work effectively from home . But before you decide you need a new device, it might be a better idea to make the most of what you have!

One of the Most Important Devices: Your Modem!

Articles that give tips for working from home generally start from your computer. We’ll start with another device that’s been slightly overlooked in this article. Your modem!

1) Is Your Modem Safe?
First of all , you need to make sure that your modem is secure . For this, you can make the password that allows you to access the Wi-Fi network, which you and your family must enter once for each device, beautiful and complex.

2) Change the Modem’s Administrator Password.
Hackers who want to access your network will first try the default username and password. To do this, you need to know and change the password for the administrator function.

You should also make this information complex and unique . If you are afraid of losing it, you can try writing it down somewhere.

3) Make Sure the Modem Software is Up to Date
Most users ignore modem updates, and they are right. Because this process is not very user friendly. You need to type the IP address (usually into the browser and log in with the administrator name and password.

You then have to navigate the web interface to find the firmware update area, which is not always automatic. By the way, you can make it more secure by turning off remote management , which is another method used by hackers to enter the system .

4) Is the Modem in the Right Place? You can manipulate the physical location of the modem to improve.

Wi-Fi coverage and performance . But the most important point you should not forget is to avoid physical obstacles. Remember that a modem’s Wi-Fi signals are propagated via radio waves, so if you put it in a closet it will perform less well than in a more open area.

5) Do You Know Your Bandwidth?
If members of your household are streaming, video chatting with friends, and playing online games, you need to make sure you’re making the most of the bandwidth you have.

Check whether your internet package suits your usage habits and needs. Using too little or too much data can cause problems. If possible, do not hesitate to contact your service provider.

Having sufficient bandwidth in your home does not mean that you can watch 4K videos without interruption at all times. Because other devices also get a share of the cake.

Or, because of old generation modems (802.11b, 802.11g and even 802.11n), you may not be able to benefit sufficiently from the Mbps that your service provider brings to your door. You should check all these and fix any problems if any.

6) Clean and Sanitize Your Devices

If you constantly touch your keyboard, screen, and mouse, and you also eat at your desk, your devices need to be cleaned regularly.

Crumbs and other substances spilled on your keyboard may prevent the keys from being pressed. For this, it may be sufficient to direct some compressed air onto the keyboard. Of course, if you go out and do it without exaggeration, you won’t encounter any problems.

If you have a desktop computer , its large fans will trap dust and your pet’s hair in the environment. After disconnecting the power supply, you can open the case cover and clean the inside of the case with some compressed air.

The situation may be a little more difficult with laptops. Opening the laptop’s case may void the warranty. However, if you turn off the device and blow some air through the ventilation holes, you can get rid of the residue inside.

For your screens, cleaning liquids or some isopropyl alcohol poured on a microfiber cloth will remove stains and kill viruses.

Make Sure Your Computer is Working Smoothly
If you are using a computer given to you by your company, you may not be able to do all of the suggestions we will list. If it’s yours, everything changes!

7) Check for Operating System Updates
You may be keeping your operating system up to date, but are other family members up to date as well? An update that a family member postpones may affect other devices connected to the network.

Some computers use separate applications to manage firmware and updates. Launch the app on these devices and let it download the necessary drivers and updates from the cloud .

8) Optimize and Speed Up Your Computer
If your PC starts slowly, you can take a look at our article ” 3 Ways to Speed Up Your Computer’s Startup Time “.

Resetting the device may be a solution to the problem of computer performance slowing down over time. In this case, you need to back up the files and settings you want to keep to the cloud or an external disk.

9) Upgrade Your Hard Drive to SSD
Switching from a spinning hard drive to an SSD is an incredibly effective way to increase the perceived speed of your laptop. You’ll still have to pay for a new SSD and do the installation yourself.

10) Automate Some PC Maintenance
Windows 10 includes some tools to help maintain your PC. There is no need to defragment your hard drive or SSD, for example Windows will do this automatically in the background.

You can find it in Settings > Storage. You can also explore some options, including automatically deleting temporary files and automatically archiving untouched content to the cloud.

11) Backup Files Online
Using cloud storage tools is the easiest solution to back up your documents, photos, and even your desktop. OneDrive, Box, Drive, Dropbox and other cloud services are good options. If you have enough space, you can also perform a more comprehensive backup.

12) Use Antivirus Software
For those who do not want to pay, you can use Windows Defender, which is integrated into the Windows operating system, along with free antiviruses .

 13) Use Fully Security Applications You do not want information about your company or institution to be learned by others while working from home. For example, it wouldn’t be nice if uninvited guests joined a video conference with your manager.

14) Check Your Printer
Experts say that the easiest point of attack on your home network is networked wireless printers. The reason is because they use a default password and are not designed for security. Upgrade your printer’s software and consider turning off Wi-Fi functions as well.

15) Change Your Passwords Constantly
Smart password management suggests that you should change your passwords at least every few months, even if it’s the master password you use to keep the password manager secure.

There are many tips to help you; Mix and match words and titles on the books on your shelves, your addresses, your favorite poem, or any random object. This way you can create strong passwords .

Bonus) Clean Your Phone
We focused more on the PC in this article, but we shouldn’t forget your mobile phones either. As on PC, you have to worry about “fun” apps and games that run banner ads or ask to install other apps as “bonuses.”

Removing these can often secure and speed up your phone. Deleting a few photos (after storing the best ones in the cloud or another handy place) never hurts either.

If you’ve made it to the end of this list, you’ve done a good job. Don’t forget to make these maintenance tips a habit to keep your devices clean, safe, and up-to-date . This way, you will have enough time to work efficiently and play games.

What is Wi-Fi 6? What are the Advantages of Wi-Fi 6?

Wi-Fi 6 is the new standard and an innovation in Wi-Fi technology. Wi-Fi 6 is also known as “AX Wi-Fi” or “802.11ax Wi-Fi”. Wi-Fi 6 also creates 802.11ac Wi-Fi standards. The question when using any new Wi-Fi standard is not whether to use it, but when and how to switch. Before making the transition, it is necessary to examine in detail how this new technology works and how it is used . In this article, we will explain the benefits and migration strategies of Wi-Fi 6.

What is Wifi 6?
Wi-Fi 6 is a new generation of Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi 6 performs the same operations as other Wi-Fis, that is, it connects its users to the internet. It has additional technologies to make this process faster and more efficient. For this reason, Wi-Fi 6 is called the next generation of Wi-Fi.

What are the benefits of Wi-Fi 6?
Once Wi-Fi 6 is fully active and operable for users, it will provide significant benefits and advancements for users.

Many of these advances and benefits will target areas and applications such as dense wireless locations or VoIP traffic. Below we will talk about some of the features and advantages of Wi-Fi 6.

1) Thanks to Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM), the available bandwidth will become more efficient. Corporate users and regular users may feel that there is a need for speed when using Wi-Fi. However, many performance problems actually occur due to bottlenecks. Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing helps solve this problem.

2) With multi-user simultaneous transfer, the transition from 4×4 stream to 8×8 stream is made. Thanks to the multiple input, multiple output, uplink and downlink ratio, both uplink and downlink became available.

3) Using the Basic Service Set (BSS) coloring feature, it distributes the traffic on the same frequency to the relevant colors. In this way, it determines the suitability of the spectrum for use and increases its reusability and performance.

4) Together with the new modulation techniques of Wi-Fi 6, it provides its users with a possible 25% increase in throughput.

5) Wi-Fi 6 schedules the communication of devices with a router, and thanks to this planning, they do not have to keep their antennas on for a long time to transmit and search for signals. This technology provides less battery consumption and long battery life.

Once Wi-Fi 6 modem and other components become widely used, you will experience these benefits for your company or personally. Since Wi-Fi 6 is the most up-to-date technology, you may think that you will receive a more effective and effective service compared to other Wi-Fi .

Things to Consider When Switching to Wi-Fi 6
So how should companies or businesses switch to Wi-Fi 6 and what should they pay attention to?

First of all, even though Wi-Fi 6 is a new technology, it will still need previous technologies. When updating LAN hardware, you need to add Wi-Fi 6 APs to your infrastructure. Thus, the first step is taken to transition to the new technology, Wi-Fi 6.

Power Consumption: While Wi-Fi 5, the previous technology, does not support 2.4GHz stations, Wi-Fi 6 does. Wi-Fi 6 is more compatible with previous technologies than Wi-Fi 5.

Additionally, native Wi-Fi 6 devices that use spatial streaming extensively will consume more power than previous generation technologies. For this reason, you need to check if your APs can provide or generate enough power to be able to use all the features of Wi-Fi 6.

Ethernet Cables:
(PoE) Power Over Ethernet has become a necessity, not a necessity, and before you start using your Wi-Fi 6, you should take a close look at the Wi-Fi 6 options and what their requirements are. Additionally, some APs have more than one uplink and can get the power it needs from several ports. This means you will need another Ethernet cable. But you also get a bandwidth advantage.

Fast Uplinks: Since Wi-Fi 6 APs can produce over 1 Gbps throughput, Gigabit Ethernet’s uplink can become a bottleneck. As we mentioned above, some APs support multiple connections, Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP) technology can combine two ports together.

If you want to take advantage of Wi-Fi 6’s high uplink, you’ll need to make high-speed copper ports available during your next switch infrastructure refresh.

Wi-Fi 6 Certification
Some vendors are delivering Wi-Fi hardware in phases unofficially called Wave 1 and Wave 2. You should check or ask if your seller implements such a process. You also need to learn how to blend in with each wave.

Some vendors may also sell standard products that provide you with the features of Wi-Fi 6. However, these products do not have Wi-Fi 6 certification, in other words, they are products that cannot pass the tests of Wi-Fi Alliance standards.

When purchasing Wi-Fi 6, you should find out whether the product you purchase has an approved certificate by paying attention to these features and information.

What is 5G? What Does 5G Technology Provide?

Since mobile phones are one of the technologies most frequently used by human beings, mobile technologies are also developing rapidly. While 4G has just entered human life, 5G has become the talk of the day. This is a testament to how fast mobile technologies are developing. 5G powers IoT (Internet of Things ) networks and facilitates new high-bandwidth applications. In this article, we will tell you about 5G technology and what you need to know about 5G.

What is 5G?
The term “5G” refers to a group of common uses for substantially faster wireless internet technologies. Users using 5G have much faster internet and less latency. Also, since 5G is the 5th generation, it means the infrastructure has changed for the 5th time.

With each new generation technology, this infrastructure needs to be changed or added. In addition, 5G aims to make the VR and autonomous cars we use today more useful as it strengthens IoT networks.

Differences Between 5G and 4G
When switching to a new generation wireless technology, the most striking feature is the speed of the internet. 5G networks have the potential to reach speeds of 10 Gbps to 20 Gbps.

Not only does 5G surpass the speeds of 4G networks, it is also much faster than the wired internet that comes to many people’s homes. 5G delivers network speeds that rival fiber optic connections.

The most important feature offered by 5G is speed, but one of the other features is a reduction in network latency, that is, it minimizes ping.

5G significantly reduces the time it takes to transmit data between the phone and the remote server and provides faster access to data. Network latency depends on many factors, but 5G networks perform better in ideal conditions than 4G.

It gives 60 to 120 times lower latency . These latency rates will make a number of applications such as virtual reality usable in today’s conditions. Technologies Used in 5G A number of independent technologies have been brought together to enable the speed and latency improvements of 5G.

  • Millimeter Wave (mmWave) : 5G networks use frequencies in the 30 to 300 GHz range. The reason for using the name Millimeter Wave is that the wavelengths of the frequencies used vary between 1 and 10 millimeters.
  • These frequency bands carry more information than the low frequency signals used in 4G LTE. MmWave technology was previously both expensive and difficult to implement. Thanks to the advances in technology, this technology is now used in 5G.
  • Small Cells : A disadvantage of millimeter wave transmission is that it is more prone to interference than Wi-Fi or 4G signals when passing through physical objects. To overcome this problem, the model of 5G infrastructure was changed from 4G.
  •  Instead of antenna masts provided by 4G, 5G networks will be powered by cell towers distributed around the city at intervals of approximately 250 meters, creating smaller cell nodes. 5G base stations have lower power requirements than 4G, and this feature allows easier connection of distribution poles to buildings.
  • Massive Multiple Antenna Systems (Massive MIMO): 5G antennas have multiple input multiple output (MIMO) so they can handle multiple simultaneous two-way conversations on the data signal. 5G networks can handle 20 times more calls than 4G. Massive multiple antenna systems serve to increase the capacity of base stations, and this capacity increase allows base stations to communicate with many more devices. This feature makes 5G (Internet of Things) compatible with IoT. As a result, it enables the use of many more internet-connected wireless devices in the same area without overloading the network.
  • Beamforming Technology: It is quite difficult to send 5G data messages to and from the right places accurately and smoothly. It becomes especially difficult when interference occurs in millimeter waves. To overcome this problem, 5g base stations started to use beamforming technology. In beamforming technology, antennas change the distribution of the signal according to the devices that want to connect to the wireless network. In this way, the network coverage area moves according to the devices and changes shape according to their location. As a result of these processes, 5G provides a stronger and higher quality connection.

Frequencies of 5G Compared to
LTE , 5G has three frequencies in itself. Therefore, these frequencies will offer a different user experience to each user. These frequencies are called low band, mid band and high band frequency.

  • Low Band Frequency is also defined as 1GHz Frequency. For LTE operators, low band is the number one band in terms of usage. Low band frequency has large coverage area and good wall penetration. However, the maximum received speed at low band frequency is 100Mbps.
  • Mid Band Frequency is faster than low band and has less latency. However, the mid-band frequency does not penetrate walls as well as the low band. It is possible to see speeds of up to 1Gbps in the mid-band.
  • High Band Frequency is the frequency that is most ideal for 5G and provides high performance. This frequency can offer peak speeds of up to 10Gbps and has considerably lower latency compared to other frequencies. High Band Frequency has low coverage and low building penetration. High bands were previously used to transmit data from the main network to smaller subnets. However, it was never made available on users’ devices. This was because miniaturized antennas were not available before.

Disadvantages of 5G
Despite the fact that 5G has numerous benefits, it also has certain drawbacks. Three of these disadvantages are as follows.

  • 5G’s Cost of Installation : Developing 5G infrastructure or making adaptations to existing cellular infrastructure can cause high costs. When the infrastructure needed to provide high speed is established, these prices can be reflected on the customers and it can be aimed to remove them from the users However, operators have already started to turn to alternative methods in order not to pass on prices to the user.
  • Use in Rural Areas : 5G can provide a really fast connection for urban areas, but people living in rural areas will not be able to take full advantage of 5G connectivity. Since 5G operators will target big cities, users living in rural areas will be the last to come.
  • Battery Problems of Devices: The batteries of devices connected to 5G seem to run out in a short time. In order for 5G to be used efficiently on devices, battery technology must advance. In addition, in addition to exhausted batteries, users using 5G on their devices claim that they get very hot and they start to complain about this situation.

5G Phones
Although 5G is not widespread in many countries, some 5G phones are already available. 5G is now available on many phones such as Huawei Mate X, Samsung Galaxy 10 and Xiaomi Mi Mix 3. However, since no one knows when 5G will be available, it is better to wait. For example, since Apple is not currently keen on 5G, it only uses 5G technology on the iPhone 12.

But this can also be seen as a strategy for Apple. In 2012, Apple switched to 4G later than Samsung phones. Therefore, just as it takes time for people to adapt to technology, the same is true for phone companies.

Is There 5G in Turkey?
Although many parts of the world have started to switch to 5G, there is currently no 5G and it is not used in Turkey. But Covid-19 Despite this, development work continues uninterruptedly in different units of 5G technology.

The estimated launch date of 5G is expected to be in the middle of 2021. However, it is necessary to wait until 2022 for the whole country to be used together. Although some companies release 5G for a trial version, there is no system offered to the public for 5G use.

One of the systems that came to the fore during the pandemic period was the communication infrastructure. By establishing a good infrastructure and base stations, 5G is being tried to be made available to the public.

Why Has 6G Been Talked Already ?
Some experts say that 5G will not meet its intended latency, speed and security targets . It is said that 6G can easily overcome these doubts. In addition to overcoming these problems, 6G attempts to enable thousands of simultaneous connections.

However, although 6G offers such good features, one of its important problems is security.A new attack model, tera-hertz-based man-in-the-middle attacks (MIMA), allows hackers to infiltrate between two networks.

In this way, various eavesdropping operations are carried out by infiltrating between two connections and the process of seizing the desired data is initiated. The good news is that the authorities have quite a long time to come up with a solution to this problem. 6G networks are not expected to be in use until 2030.

What is Natural Language Processing (NLP)?

Natural Language Processing is the field of science that tries to maximize human-computer interaction using the language people use to communicate with each other or to strengthen communication between people using different languages . In the light of these developments, efforts are being made to give computers human characteristics.

So what is the purpose of Natural Language Processing, also known as NLP?

In general terms, we can define its purpose as eliminating the gap between computer and human communication. As a result of these developments, it makes it easier for computers to understand us and for us to understand them.

Like humans, computers also have a native language. The difference here is that their language is a binary number system of ones and zeros, which means nothing to us linguistically unless translated. Natural Language Processing technology allows computers and humans to speak the same language.

History of Natural Language Processing Technology

The roots of natural language processing technology date back to the 1600s. It took three centuries of technological development for applicable examples of NLP to emerge.

NLP Comes to the Stage

The Georgetown IBM experiment conducted in 1954 was the first significant breakthrough in this field. This experiment, the first of its kind, involved automatic translation of more than 60 Russian sentences by computers.

Computers Learned to Understand

Artificial intelligence theorist and cognitive psychologist Roger Schank developed the conceptual dependency theory model for understanding natural language in 1969. Schank’s goal was to enable computers to read meaning independently of the actual written word.

This approach taught machines that it doesn’t matter how sentences are written, as long as their meanings are the same, regardless of how they are entered into computer systems.

1970s: Fast Times of Technology

NLP researcher William A. Woods introduced the augmented relay network (ATN) in 1970. Representing natural language input, ATN gave computers the ability to analyze sentence structure regardless of complexity.

The 70s were spent with programmers developing the conceptual philosophy of existence (ontology). These studies aimed to develop a standard by introducing the formal representation of categories and relationships within a universal set of variables.

New Era in NLP

Natural language processing technology relied on hand-written rule-based models for most of the 80s. The first machine learning algorithms developed in the late 80s took shape as decision trees based on conditional rule mechanics such as “if X then Y,” which resemble complex handwritten rule sets. These NLP systems focused on statistical models that evaluated data inputs to a higher level of accuracy than previous systems.

The Golden Age of Natural Language Processing

Today, we see natural language processing technology in many areas of our daily lives. The new age technological explosion has led to the development of more applications for NLP than ever before. Natural language processing and artificial intelligence increase their functionality in direct proportion to the development of technology.

So How Is Natural Language Processing Applied?

Natural language processing processes vary from language to language. The computer first looks at the transformation of the word along with the suffixes on the root, this is called lexicology.

After that, it tries to understand what the words in the sentence mean according to their order, this is called syntax. Then, it looks at what the sentence is trying to express in its essence, this is called semantics.

Finally, it looks at what the sentences come together to express, and this is speech. In summary, the computer learns the context of the conversation by examining the root of the word separately, the order of the words separately, and the meaning of the sentence and speech separately and derives a meaning.

Today, deep learning , machine learning, statistical analysis and rule-based approaches are used in hybrid form to solve natural language processing problems . The problems studied can vary widely.

Natural language processing comes into play in every field that touches on natural language, from correcting spelling errors to automatic translation systems, from language learning applications to personal assistant applications.

Natural Language Processing Usage Areas

Text mining, which has become very popular recently, is also included in natural language processing. Thanks to text mining, we can process the thoughts that accumulate in masses on the internet and extract meaning.

Apart from this, natural language processing is used in speech recognition. Technologies such as speech recognition and automatic lip reading are used both to assist the hearing impaired and for surveillance.

There are no microphones in CCTV cameras in order to avoid privacy violations , but some governments are trying to prevent a security problem that may arise by reading lips from CCTVs. Of course, there is also the ethical dilemma of personal privacy or public security here.

Smart Virtual Assistants

These systems, also known as chat bots, help people perform transactions by understanding the language they speak or write. This virtual assistant technology (Apple Siri, Google Assistant, etc.), which we started to use on mobile phones, is among the active research topics of natural language processing.

Information Retrieval and Information Extraction

Search engines such as Google, Yandex, Bing are information retrieval systems where natural language processing is used most intensively.

Natural language processors are constantly working on new technologies so that these systems can better understand what information we want to search for and bring us the most appropriate data sources for the information we need.

Social Media Tracking

Large companies, administrators and decision makers need to regularly take the pulse of the public in the decisions they make, the advertisements they make and the policies they determine.

Comments made on social media such as Facebook and Twitter through social media monitoring; analyzed with natural language processing methods; The general reactions, likes or dissatisfaction of the public can be followed.

Automatic Translation Systems

They are systems that automatically translate between different languages. This technology, which has entered our daily lives at full speed, takes its place among the important subjects of natural language processing and makes people’s lives easier.

How to Leverage Big Data Tools?

Living in an age where various technological developments took place and the use of technology evolved rapidly has brought incredible power to the people of the 21st century. The ever-increasing requirements have been an excellent source of inspiration for many scientists. Therefore, technology has entered our daily lives.

In the 4th part of the Modern Facts Series, we will discuss the relationship between big data and organizations. How is big data used in the decision-making process? How do organizations manage big data and decide which big data tools to use? Do they encounter difficulties in aligning their processes with big data? What are the main differences between “open source tools” and “commercial tools”?

Big Data in Decision Making

One of the areas where big data is used effectively is decision-making processes. The decision-making process is not easy or superficial, but requires serious focus on determining the decision-making criteria in order to choose the most appropriate alternative in line with the relevant criteria.

The two main processes of leveraging big data in decision-making can be categorized as data management and data analytics.

Data management ; It brings together all disciplines related to data management through compilation, administration, integration, security and storage processes. Thus, the relevant data is made ready for data analysis processes through data management.

Therefore, data analyticsThe terms refer to examining data sets to draw conclusions about the information they provide to obtain valuable results. The process in question; It is about data modelling, analysis and interpretation processes that give meaning to raw data.

In this regard, data management; It is classified as distributed file system, cluster management, data storage, management, security and data integration.

Similarly, data analysis; data processing and programming are classified into visualization and data preprocessing components. Apache Hadoop, Cloudera, Cassandra, MongoDB, Apache Storm and Apache Spark are among the most widely used big data tools.

Selection Criteria of Organizations

Today, organizations have difficulty storing and managing data effectively. In fact, some organizations do not have sufficient information about whether to store data and, if so, which data will be stored and how.

Organizations also struggle to create a comprehensive structure to manage and track the development of existing and new open source big data tools that are subject to continuous evolution .

Additionally, open source big data tools have become popular and it is of great importance to research the advantages and disadvantages of these tools. Therefore, existing open source big data tools are used to understand managerial and technical decisions.

Open source code allows us to improve ourselves, and thanks to the freely available knowledge, we can customize the tools as we wish. Due to low cost or free acquisition, this enables the simultaneous use of many tools and provides a heterogeneous platform.

Based on all these issues, organizations are being directed towards open source tools instead of commercial ones in order to keep up with developments.

The most important thing to consider when deciding which structural component to choose is the use of these tools. Visual programming models based on data flow emerged to solve this problem.

Apart from technical and domain-specific challenges, small-scale company-specific problems also arise. It is also important to apply technical and managerial skills together when making a choice.

Therefore, considering that each organization knows its own system better than others, during the selection; The characteristics, vision and goals of the organization must be seriously considered. Time requirements, data size, platform independence, data storage model and similar factors may be among the main criteria.

Why Do Organizations Have Difficulties in Data Management?

Organizations face difficulty in choosing the vehicle that best suits their needs, considering the technical specifications of the vehicle and the organization’s business strategy and scope of activity.

Additionally, there are people who are experts in a particular field but do not have the knowledge to use the tools. For this reason, managers may have reservations about how to process the outputs obtained from the tools.

In addition, the organization’s inability to keep up with developments, the adaptation problem of mid-level management staff, the inability to comprehensively comprehend the issue, or the lack of sufficient business resilience may also cause various difficulties.

Comparison of Open Source Tool and Commercial Tool

Both open source tools and commercial tools have their own unique problems and offer benefits with their respective drawbacks depending on the conditions in which they are implemented.

The most important factor at the beginning of the comparison process is the source code specifications. While the source code is protected in commercial tools, it is kept available for public use in open source tools.

You do not pay any fee for open source tools, but you need to allocate a certain budget for commercial tools. While open source tools are used voluntarily by small-scale companies, commercial tools are more useful for large commercial companies.

Open source tools; It is financially supported through donations, support, and custom modifications to the software. However, sales of software, applications and formats subsidize commercial tools.

While no commitment is provided in open source tools, ongoing support and development services are of great importance in commercial tools. Open source tools offer flexibility and provide a variety of methods to solve problems.

Another great feature of open source tools is the speed factor. Most importantly, open source tools shape the future. Web, mobile and cloud solutionsis evolving significantly, and data and analytics solutions are only available in open source tools.

In decision-making and process optimization activities, not only a big data working tool is required, but also the fastest tool to achieve goals on time. Existing and new vehicles began to be developed to operate in the ideal time.

When evaluating vehicle performance in some systems, quality, efficiency, delay and zero data loss factors are of great importance.

To summarize:

The amount of data we have is increasing exponentially every day. I say “exponentially” because the amount of data we have in the past will be equivalent to the amount of data of the last few years, which means that data is growing exponentially. Therefore, in addition to individuals, organizations also need to learn how to manage their data .

Data management is now of great importance in determining the fate of organizations. As a result, organizations need to determine as soon as possible which big data tools are better suited to their organizational goals.

That’s all for now. See you in next articles 🙂

What is Metaverse? How Will It Affect the Future?

Various predictions have been put forward about the future of the Internet, and recently the most important of them is the “metaverse”. Of course, these changes will have great impacts on societies. In the new era, Metaverse will unleash creativity to an incredible extent and open new boundaries and horizons for brands and businesses.

What is Metaverse?

The word “metaverse” is a new word derived from the mixture of the meanings of the words “meta” (beyond) and “universe” (universe).

The Metaverse is a collective virtual shared space created by the convergence of virtually enhanced physical reality and physically persistent virtual space, including the sum of all virtual worlds, augmented reality , and the Internet.

Science fiction author Neal Stephenson initially used the term “Metaverse” in his book “Snow Crash” from 1992.

In “Snow Crash,” the Metaverse is a massive popular virtual world experienced by users equipped with augmented reality technology.

A lifelike virtual world is a shared virtual space where people are represented by digital avatars.

The virtual world constantly grows and develops depending on the decisions and actions of the society within it.

People will be able to enter the metaverse entirely virtually (i.e., with virtual reality) or interact with parts of it in their physical space with the help of augmented and mixed reality.

Why is the Metaverse Important?

Even if the Metaverse falls short of the fantastical visions captured by science fiction writers, it is likely to generate trillions in value as a new computing platform or content environment.

but literally the Metaverse is the gateway to most digital experiences, a key component of all physical experiences, and is becoming the next great business platform.

The value of being a participant in such a system is also quite great.

Today, the “internet” does not have an owner, but when we look at the most valuable public companies in the world, we see the leading internet companies at the top. If Metaverse is truly going to replace the internet, it could also have a huge economic boost.

The metaverse can produce a greater number and variety of opportunities than what we see on the internet.

Payment processing, authentication, recruitment, advertising, content creation,New companies, products and services will emerge to manage everything from security and so on. This means that many employees today will be out of work and transformed.

How will the Metaverse be established?

The Metaverse will require countless new technologies, protocols, companies, innovations, and discoveries to work, and “pre-Metaverse” will not exist as directly as “post-Metaverse.”

Instead, it will emerge gradually over time as different products, services and capabilities integrate and merge, but it is helpful to consider a few key elements that need to be met.

Infrastructure that does not yet exist is needed for the metaverse. Because the internet wasn’t designed for anything close to that experience, it was designed for sharing files from one computer to another.

The Metaverse requires more than just video conferencing and video games, and requires a highly concurrency infrastructure.

Most video chat programs allow at most a few dozen people to meet. If there is a situation that reaches hundreds of people, live broadcast images of a few people are delivered to the audience instead of two-way sharing.

Which Companies Can Contribute to the Development of the Metaverse?
1. Microsoft
Microsoft has hundreds of millions of combined user identities through Office 365 and Linkedin. It is the second largest cloud vendor in the world.

It has a comprehensive suite of business-related software and services covering all systems/platforms/infrastructure.

To that end, Metaverse presents an opportunity at Microsoft to reclaim the operating system/hardware leadership it vacated during the transition from PC to mobile devices.

2. Facebook While
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckenberg hasn’t publicly stated his intention to develop and own the Metaverse, his obsession with it seems pretty obvious.

Facebook will be more affected by the Metaverse than any other company, as it will create a larger and more capable social graph and represent both a new computing platform and a new engagement platform.

3. Amazon
Amazon, most obviously, will always want to be the primary place where we buy products. In addition, the company is already the world’s largest cloud vendor with hundreds of millions of credit cards, a media provider for a wide variety of consumers, an e-commerce platform, and is reportedly working on AR glasses.

4. Apple
You probably already know that Apple owns one of the biggest producers of consumer devices as well as the biggest gaming retailers in the contemporary era.

Additionally, the company is investing heavily in AR devices and IoT technologies that will help the Metaverse. However, creating an open platform where anyone can access all user data and device APIs goes against Apple’s values and business strategy.

How Will the Metaverse Affect Our Lives?

Current online platforms allow users to move freely for certain services and within certain limits, but limit interoperability between platforms.

You can build anything in “Minecraft,” but you can’t import your creations into a “Fortnite” map. Metaverse will allow users to create their own content and distribute it freely in a widely accessible digital world.

Unlike the modern internet, Metaverse users will experience all changes in real time. If a user makes any changes to the Metaverse, that change will be permanent and visible to almost everyone.

The persistence and interoperability of the Metaverse will provide users with greater continuity of identity and experience compared to the modern internet.

In the Metaverse, users won’t need to have separate Twitter profiles, “Fortnite” characters and Reddit accounts, but will have their own across all channels. This continuity of identity will be the key factor behind how users purchase and consume content in the Metaverse.

When Will the Metaverse Arrive?

There are still quite a few obstacles on the way to a true Metaverse. The biggest obstacles are hardware limitations. Currently worldwide networking and computing capabilities will not yet be able to support a persistent digital world that can be experienced in real time by millions of concurrent users.

Even if this level of networking and computing power were available, the energy consumption of such an effort would create problems for both national power grids and the environment.

If hardware and energy technology are sufficient, broad cultural changes will be necessary to foster the development of a true Metaverse.

Relatively high-quality virtual reality and augmented reality technologies are already available to consumers, but less than 20 percent of Americans are familiar with VR headsets, according to a 2020 report by Thrive Analytics and ARtillery Intelligence.

Additionally, experts predict that devices such as VR and AR have a chance to surpass game consoles as early as 2025.

What are Metaverse Projects?

Metaverse Economy Projects

Companies will need to transform their marketing strategies from online ad purchases to versions that can be used in a shared virtual economy.

Companies will need to conduct market research on new customers in their database.

How people behave and what their preferences are in the metaverse can be completely different from how they behave and what they shop for in real life.

Metaverse Culture Projects

People will not wander through the Metaverse one by one. They will establish friendships and relationships that will influence their decisions.

Brands will need to continue to adapt to play styles and interactions. Customers will not only be able to talk to brands like on social media, they will be able to interact with them in 3D form.

Metaverse Shopping Projects

Virtual fashion, avatars, and virtual real estate (housing, cars, etc.) will have their own value in the Metaverse. Companies will have to design brands for different people at different stages of the economy.

People who invest in metadata may have their own businesses and properties in the Metaverse, so there may also be partnership opportunities with businesses that do not have a physical presence.

Virtual fashion houses and designers will have the opportunity to enter a completely new digital-first clothing market.

“We will be able to send video from our brain”: the future through the eyes of visionaries

Humanity is rapidly moving towards the emergence of a general AI that will affect all areas of life. According to visionaries, in the near future people will be able to live in near space, and robots will help them in routine matters.

Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft

As crucial as the invention of the microprocessor, personal computer, internet, and cell phone was the development of artificial intelligence. Artificial intelligence will change the way people work, study, travel, get medical care and communicate with each other. Entire industries will be refocused on AI. Companies will stand out by how well they use it…

Artificial intelligence will help fight the most serious threats in the world. Health inequalities are now the largest, with 5 million children under the age of five dying every year. That’s less than 10 million two decades ago, but still a shockingly high number. Almost all of these children were born in poor countries and are dying from curable diseases such as diarrhea or malaria. It’s hard to imagine a better use of AI than saving the lives of children… Climate change is another challenge that I believe AI can help combat.”

Richard Branson, founder of the Virgin Group

“ In 20 years, a spacecraft with people will reach Mars, and humanity will already participate in the lunar project. I think that some kind of living environment will be formed on the Moon and companies like Boeing will be involved in its development. One day, there will be a hotel near the moon with capsules from which you can just look at the Earth from the windows, and small two-seat spaceships that can travel on the moon and return to the hotel at night.

Thomas Frey, founder of the think tank DaVinci Institute

“ By 2030, we will need 3 million more AI engineers. People will work as drone control center operators. Drones will help reduce crime: they will respond to gunshots and chase criminals until they are detained by the police …

Law enforcement will study data and make predictions about where crimes will occur before they happen…

In the coming decades, vacuum tunnels will be built, through which people will move at a speed of 1200 km / h. Ultra-high-speed aircraft will deliver passengers from New York to Los Angeles in a couple of hours. Taxi drones will pick them up from airports.

Maybe people will even be able to spend their holidays in the center of the Earth. Luxurious underwater hotels and fish farms in the ocean will appear. Floating cities will develop and zoos with animals we have never seen – genetic engineering will create something like a saber-toothed tiger and other unusual species.

Sundar Pichai, head of Alphabet

Every sector, industry, and facet of our lives will be impacted by AI. I would call AI the deepest technology humanity is working on. I think it will lead to great social upheavals in the labor market. Governments should be involved in the processes of regulation of this situation. True professionalism will play a big role in the future labor market.”

Michio Kaku, physicist, science popularizer

Nanomedicine will enable us to develop a “magic cure” for cancer. For example, with the help of nanotechnology, individual molecules will be able to target cancer cells. In the future, your toilet will be your first line of defense against cancer, because it will analyze bodily fluids that contain signs of cancer cells years before the formation of a malignant tumor. Cancer will become like a common cold that doesn’t kill anyone, except maybe when you have pneumonia …

Students taking exams will be able to blink and see all the answers right in their contact lenses. This can also be helpful in other circumstances. . For example, you are present at a party where there are very important people who can influence your future. However, you don’t know who. In the future, you will definitely be able to understand who to approach at such events. This technology can also be useful on blind dates. Of course, your new acquaintance will say that he is single, rich and successful. But your contact lenses will object that he pays alimony, is divorced three times and is generally a complete loser.

Ray Kurzweil, inventor and futurist

Human life expectancy will rise by over a year per year by 2030. Special nanobots will be embedded in the bloodstream: they will “restore” the brain and connect it with the cloud. When this happens, we will be able to send videos or emails directly from the brain, as well as back up our memories. In 2045, humanity will reach a singularity in which our intelligence will merge with AI, amplifying billions of times.”

Former Google CEO and Schmidt Futures co-founder Eric Schmidt

The introduction of AI will make science far more fascinating and in some respects unrecognizably transformative. The echoes of this shift will be felt far beyond the lab; they affect all of us. We can build a future in which AI-powered tools save us from mindless and time-consuming work, and lead to creative inventions and discoveries, facilitating breakthroughs that would otherwise take decades. Humans will build AI-powered machines with hundreds of micropipettes working day and night to create samples at a speed never seen before. Eventually, most scientific research will be carried out in “autonomous laboratories” – on automated robotic platforms combined with artificial intelligence. AI tools will help lower the entry barrier for young scientists and open up opportunities for those who have traditionally been excluded from the field.”

Elon Musk, founder of SpaceX and Tesla

“I believe that sooner rather than later, the proportion of humanoid robots to humans will be greater than one to one. We will see the domestic, industrial use of robots, as well as the work of humanoid robots .

All cars will become fully electric and autonomous. Driving a non-autonomous gasoline car will be similar to riding a horse and using a flip phone .”

Neil deGrasse Tyson is an astronomer and scientific communicator.

“ There are people who are sure that AI will destroy us. I don’t think so , but I’m not an expert either. I do not agree with the statement that everything goes to the end of the world. I have an optimistic outlook. We need to get AI to write everything that does not require authorship: brochures, instructions and travel guides. We have almost reached the day when AI will control your car. He will be able to text and drive at the same time without putting anyone’s life at risk. He will be able to drive a car at a speed of 150 km / h on a narrow road and still avoid accidents. At least in the US, this will save 40,000 lives a year. With proper implementation, artificial intelligence will solve the problem of hunger, genome editing and all other problems that we cannot solve on our own.”

Arvind Krishna, head of IBM

“ Artificial intelligence already easily takes on 30 to 50% of human tasks and can perform them with the same or even greater skill than humans. Companies need to prepare their employees to work with new AI applications. This means combining human experience and knowledge of complex processes (such as bringing a new drug to market) with artificial intelligence. We need to instill in people the appropriate skills to work creatively and responsibly with AI.

This does not mean that every employee will have to learn how to program, but most will have to familiarize themselves with new solutions. At the same time, companies will need to think about how to move employees freed from routine work with the help of AI to other positions. I think the introduction of artificial intelligence will not only lead to innovation, but also increase employee satisfaction and productivity.”

Pat Gelsinger, head of Intel

“Over the past 50 years, geopolitics have been shaped by the location of oil reserves. Now , where technology and semiconductor supply chains are located will determine geopolitics for the next 50 years. Everything is becoming more digital, and everything digital is powered by semiconductors. So they are critical to every aspect of human existence. All areas of life will be driven by digital technologies – healthcare, cars, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, personal computers.”

John Carmack, co-founder of id Software and Armadillo Aerospace

I believe that by the 2030s, artificial general intelligence should be a reality.. What if I said that ten years from now we will have “universal remote workers”, which are general purpose AIs running in the clouds? People can just dial in and say, “I need five Franks today and ten Amys, and we’re going to put them in these jobs.”

We are constantly building human capital and applying it to the things we work with today, or we could just say: “I want to make a movie, create a comic or something like that, give me the necessary command,” and then start the production process in cloud. That is my vision.”

Tim Cook, CEO of Apple

The fundamental concept of augmented reality is that objects from the digital world can be superimposed on the real environment.. This will significantly improve communication between people, their connection. AR technology will enable us to achieve what we could not achieve before. This environment may even be better than just the real world. And it’s exciting. If technology can speed up creativity or simply help us do what we do all day, then we will stop thinking about how to work differently.

Martin Ford, futurist

Deepfakes already exist, which are artificial intelligence-generated images, audio, and video that imitate actual humans. <…> It is likely that for 30 years the heirs of deceased movie stars will continue to make films with the participation of their ancestors. And none of the characters we see in the movies will be real. So what will be the need for actors? Producers will create characters by talking to artificial intelligence.”

Emad Mostak, founder of Stability AI

“We must see the presence of AI in the future as inevitable. Already, 41% of the code on GitHub is generated code, and in six months ChatGPT can pass the exam for a middle-level programmer. In five years, programmers will no longer be a profession. In general , the development of AI will allow each of us to earn money by inventing and bringing to market products that will make people’s lives better .”

Strategic technology: prospects and risks of generative AI

The Roscongress Foundation has published a study on the development of generative neural networks. We talk about the opportunities, risks and future of AI that researchers have identified

What’s happening

  • Roscongress studied the risks and prospects associated with the development of generative neural networks.
  • Generative neural networks are neural networks that generate texts, images, video, audio, presentations and other works. Examples of generative neural networks are ChatGPT and Midjourney .
  • According to a survey conducted among 12,000 participants at the World Economic Forum in Davos in 2023, artificial intelligence has become the most important strategic technology.
  • According to Next Move Strategy Consulting, by 2030 the market for AI-related products will grow almost tenfold to $2 trillion. Most AI technologies will appear in the areas of supply chain management, marketing, product design and data analysis.
  • The leading countries in terms of investment in the development of AI and the number of scientific publications are China and the United States.
  • Among the risks associated with the development of neural networks, the authors of the study identified:
  1. Problems with identification of texts generated by AI.
  2. Legal difficulties associated with the use of data collected on the Internet.
  3. Use of data relating to banking, commercial, medical and other types of secrets.
  4. Generation of politically biased texts by a neural network.
  • Among the prospects for the development of AI is the improvement of performance in areas where the cost of error is small.
  • The researchers also noted that the most profitable scenario for Russia is the creation of its own competitive solutions, and not a ban on the use of foreign ones.

What does it mean

The development of generative artificial intelligence (GAI) can have huge potential for society in various fields, including science, medicine, manufacturing, communication and entertainment.

  1. Manufacturing: GII can help automate manufacturing and streamline manufacturing processes. This can result in cost savings for companies and lower costs for consumers.
  2. Medicine: GII can help improve the accuracy of disease diagnosis and prediction, as well as optimize treatment and the development of new drugs and therapies.
  3. Arts and culture: The GUI can generate various works – texts, music, images. This can save time and costs.
  4. Education: GII can help optimize the learning process and tailor the learning process to the needs of each student.

However, the development of the GII may have negative implications, such as data security and privacy. Therefore, it is important to develop an ethical and legal framework for the use of GAI and to convey to society that artificial intelligence is a tool with which to improve the standard of living. Already today, AI is used to search for missing people, predict natural disasters, develop new drugs and diagnose various diseases.

What are the Azilomar principles and why artificial intelligence needs them

Why do machines need to understand what is right and wrong? How to “nurture” artificial intelligence and do sets of rules, such as the Asilomar Principles, help in this?

What are the Asilomar Principles

The Azilomar Principles are 23 recommendations that are important to follow when working with artificial intelligence in order to use it exclusively in a positive way. In 2017, the Beneficial AI 2017 conference was held in California, dedicated to the safe use of artificial intelligence for the benefit of humanity.

It was attended by scientists and experts in the field of IT, AI technologies, robotics and law. The result of the conference was the Azilomar principles. [1]

The principles cover various aspects such as safety, research ethics, equity, transparency. Although the document is not legally binding, it can act as an ethical guide for those involved in the research and development of AI technologies.

More than 5,700 people signed the Azilomar principles, including businessman Elon Musk, theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking, University of California professor Stuart Russell, OpenAI co-founder and chief scientist Ilya Sutskever, DeepMind founder ( later acquired by Google) Demis Hassabis.

Why the Asilomar Principles are Necessary

Artificial intelligence has enormous potential both to improve our lives and to create problems or exacerbate existing ones. One of them is social discrimination. For example, Rekognition’s facial recognition system was found to be biased against people with dark skin.

Amazon’s hiring algorithm discriminated against female candidates [3] and the sentencing algorithm may be racially biased against black defendants [4] . Such cases arise due to the fact that the data arrays on which neural networks are trained contain biased information (bias), and the algorithms begin to reproduce it. The Asilomar Principles are designed to minimize the impact of such information.

In addition, the unregulated development of AI can deprive people of their jobs and negatively affect the economy of the regions. As robots and neural networks get better and better at complex tasks, there is a risk that over time they may force real employees out of their jobs.

This will lead to unemployment and economic recession. The principles dictate that any AI technology should be designed in such a way that it does not just take away work, but benefits all members of society.

According to the Azilomar Principles, AI development must be transparent and accountable, as this is what strengthens people’s trust in new technologies. AI systems are often thought of as ” black boxes ” – the difficulty of understanding and controlling the decisions and actions that AI systems and algorithms produce. This breeds skepticism about artificial intelligence, especially in important areas such as healthcare and criminal justice.

AI systems should be designed in such a way that the essence of their work is clear to everyone. People need to understand how decisions are made, which developers are involved in the project, and who is responsible for the actions of artificial intelligence.

Key principles

Benefit .AI developments should be beneficial and beneficial for all people and the environment.
Safety. AI systems must be designed and operated to minimize the risk of inadvertent harm to humans.
Transparency. The design, development and deployment of AI systems must be transparent; AI systems must explain their decisions and actions to people.
Confidentiality. AI technologies must keep personal data secure, and users must be able to control which of their personal data AI technologies can use for their work.
Justice. In AI developments, cases of discrimination should not be allowed.
human control. Humans should be able to control AI systems to prevent them from causing harm.
General benefit. AI should benefit society as a whole, not just small groups of people or individual organizations.
Responsibility. The people responsible for developing and deploying AI systems must be held accountable for their impact on society.
No AI arms race. It is necessary to avoid confrontation of states for the sake of achieving superiority in the field of lethal autonomous weapons and other military AI systems.
At the same time, scientist Tehsin Zia, who leads AI research at Komsats University (Islamabad, Pakistan), also points out weaknesses in the document. First, the principles are only advisory in nature, which means that no one is obliged to comply with them. Secondly, the principles do not offer any specific measures to prevent or correct adverse situations, which means that their practical value is questionable. Third, the principles are written in a rather abstract way, which means they leave room for interpretation, Zia notes.
